Henry Tsang Architect is an award-winning architectural research, design and teaching firm based in Calgary, AB. HTA is a Registered Architect & Firm, member of the Alberta Association of Architects and the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada.
Design
Principal Architect, Dr. Henry Tsang is a Chinese-Canadian born and raised in Montreal, QC. He is also an assistant professor with Athabasca University’s RAIC Centre for Architecture. Dr. Tsang studied architecture at McGill University and the University of Tokyo, with global experience in China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Japan, Korea working on diverse building types, i.e. hospitals, hotels, schools, offices and community centres. His recent design for the Calgary Japanese Community Centre won a Canadian Architect of Excellence Award in 2020, and he is also the recipient of two Construction Canada Emerging Leader Awards in 2021 for his community-centric design, service and research. Tsang is certified in LEED, WELL and the Rick Hansen Foundation Accessibility standards.
Research
Prof. Henry Tsang and University of Calgary Prof. Matt Patterson are currently collaborating on a research project funded by the Social Science & Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) on The Politics of Placemaking in Chinatown.
Teaching
As a “Teaching Architecture Firm”, HTA provides mentorship and training to architecture students and intern architects.
